    أهلاً وسهلاً

Welcome to Lugha Nour, a beginning that stems from the love Arabic has planted in my heart. In learning this language of light, I have discovered a spring that lasts all year long, keeping the heart cool in its shade while letting the light filter through its leaves, illuminating it: ربيع قلبي ونور صدري

Lugha Nour is a humble space and a free study companion for learners of Modern Standard Arabic. It began as a way to organize what I was learning and grew into something I hope will benefit other seekers of the language. It remains, by Allah's will, a work in progress.

Here you'll find vocabulary-building flashcards and summary tables on Arabic connectors, gathered and organized to support review, understanding, and retention, with more grammar resources planned, in sha Allah.

May Allah accept it and place benefit in these resources as we journey toward connecting sincerely with His Book, growing in love for His beloved ﷺ, and returning to Him in a state pleasing to Him ﷻ.

From the desert to the page: Arabic has always traveled.

Like a caravan crossing the dunes, the language has long journeyed with scholars and seekers of knowledge.

Honor of the Language | شرف اللغة

Those who came before us in our tradition have spoken eloquently about the virtue of the Arabic language. May these words be a reminder.

ʿUmar ibn al-Khattab رضي الله عنه is reported to have said:

    تَعَلَّمُوا الْعَرَبِيَّةَ، فَإِنَّهَا تَزِيدُ فِي الْمُرُوءَةِ

Learn Arabic, for it increases one’s noble character.

    [Al-Bayhaqi, Shu'ab al-Iman, no. 1555]

Hasan al-Basri رحمه الله was asked about people learning Arabic. He replied:

    أَحْسَنُوا، يَتَعَلَّمُونَ لُغَةَ نَبِيِّهِمْ ﷺ

They have done well. They are learning the language of their Prophet ﷺ.

    [Tafsir al-Qurtubi, vol. 1, p. 23]

    Imam ash-Shafi'i رحمه الله said:

    فَعَلَى كُلِّ مُسْلِمٍ أَنْ يَتَعَلَّمَ مِنْ لِسَانِ الْعَرَبِ مَا بَلَغَهُ جُهْدُهُ

Every Muslim should learn from the Arabic language to the extent of his ability.
